As the country slowly begins to reopen, healthy and safety are at the forefront of everyone’s’ minds. To keep you as safe as possible while providing the dental care you need, your emergency dentist has added a variety of extra COVID-19 precautions. Read on to learn five ways your dental team is working to safeguard your health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

1.) Advanced COVID-19 Training for Team Members

Your dental team has always practiced excellent infection control to keep you safe from sicknesses like the common cold and the flu during your visit. However, they’ve enhanced their skills even more with advanced COVID-19 training. Each member has completed additional awareness and prevention programs to ensure they are able and prepared to keep you safe from the coronavirus.

2.) Sequenced Scheduling & At-Risk Patient Hours

You’ll notice some of the new COVID-19 dental safety protocols as soon as you call to make your appointment. Your dentist is utilizing sequenced patient scheduling, which leaves more time for cleaning and physical space for coming and going between appointments. While this means you may be offered fewer times to schedule your visit, this method minimizes your exposure to other patients. If you are a medically-concerned patient, your dentist has set aside office hours just for you to ensure your safety.

3.) Regularly & Thoroughly Cleaning the Practice

Each treatment room is thoroughly cleaned between each patient. Every surface, instrument, and piece of equipment is first wiped down, then cleaned with a hospital-grade disinfectant to eliminate any lingering particles. Other areas of the practice such as the front desk and reception are sanitized regularly throughout the day as well. Then, at the end of every day, the entire office is scrubbed top to bottom to ensure it is as clean as possible.

4.) New PPE to Enhance Team Members’ Working Wardrobe

The next time you see your dentist and their team, they may look a little different than the last time you saw them! They’ve bolstered their normal working attire with additional personal protective equipment to prevent the spread of germs. Aside from new N95 and ASTM level three masks, they may also be wearing disposable, protective hats and gloves during some of your treatments. Even the friendly front desk team members will be smiling from underneath their face coverings.

5.) Changes to the Reception Area

Although you won’t be spending much time in the reception area, you will probably notice a few of the changes that have been made there. Clear plastic barriers have been strategically placed throughout the practice. These sneeze guards block the movement of airborne particles in the office, as well as shield patients and staff members from potentially infectious droplets of saliva.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many aspects of our lives, but it hasn’t changed your dentist’s commitment to your safety. If you need to visit them for care, you can rest assured that they are taking measures to keep you as safe and healthy as possible during your visit.
